Welcome to Passageway
Passageway Residence is a community-based organization that has provided adult mental health services in Miami-Dade County since its founding in 1979. For more than 30 years, it has served Florida’s mentally ill population by offering a variety of treatment and rehabilitation programs administered by a Comprehensive Service Team dedicated to helping individuals with severe and persistent mental illness achieve a high level of satisfying and functional living.

Our Mission: Passageway partners with individuals impacted by serious mental illness and the criminal justice system to support their recovery journeys with dignity, respect, and clinical excellence. We provide structured, compassionate treatment, individualized support, and opportunities for personal growth that empower each person to build a meaningful, self-directed life while maintaining safety for both the individual and the broader community.
Vision: A community where every person we serve thrives in a life of purpose, connection, and belonging — equipped with insight, resilience, and the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
-
-
- Trauma-Informed Care: We recognize the impact of trauma and integrate this awareness into all aspects of service delivery.
- Cultural Humility: We commit to ongoing learning and responsiveness to cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity.
- Empowerment & Advocacy: We support individuals in exercising their rights and achieving self-determination in partnership with families, community providers, and systems of care.
- Proportionality: We balance court-ordered requirements with recovery-oriented care by applying individualized, proportional supports based on each person’s behavioral health needs, level of risk, and demonstrated progress -not solely on the nature of past offenses.
- Solidarity/Interdependence: We recognize that individuals and communities are interconnected. The safety of the community is strengthened when every person has access to care, stability, and opportunity.
- Trauma-Informed Care: We recognize the impact of trauma and integrate this awareness into all aspects of service delivery.
-
CORE VALUES:
-
-
- Recovery & Hope: We believe that recovery is possible for every person regardless of past challenges. We cultivate hope through strength-based care, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to discover personal purpose.
- Person-Centered & Strengths-Focused: Individuals are experts in their own lives. We meet each person where they are, honoring autonomy, identity, culture, preferences, and unique goals in planning and care.
- Safety & Responsibility: We are committed to the safety of those served, our staff, and the broader community. We balance compassion with responsibility, implementing practices grounded in evidence, risk awareness, and best-practice standards.
- Respect & Dignity: We honor the inherent worth of every person. We treat individuals with fairness, empathy, and respect — without judgment — and protect their rights and privacy.
- Collaboration & Inclusion: We work in partnership with those we serve, families, community providers, and systems of care to create networks of support. Diverse voices strengthen outcomes and enrich our community.
- Accountability & Excellence: We strive for excellence through continuous learning, data-informed decision-making, and reflective practice, ensuring our services are effective, ethical, and responsive to individual and community needs.
